In this episode, Nate and Adam follow Marty McFly’s lead, and go back in time to the Old West to cover Avalon Hill’s 1982 classic Gunslinger. We go over how we found the game, what it’s like to play it, and describe how playing Gunslinger led us to re-interpret some Western movies.
Games mentioned:
Gunslinger
Cowboys: The Way of the Gun
Strange Synergy
Car Wars
RoboRally
Movies mentioned:
A Fistful of Dollars
Back to the Future Part III
BTW, near the end there’s some GSM radio noise I couldn’t get rid of — I had my mobile phone too close to my microphone. Gotta remember to turn my phone off during these recording sessions. So, sorry about that.
Wow a new episode hurray!!!
Wha?!?!? A new episode!?!?! Wha hoooooo!!!!! : )
Can we get links for either the files you used to print up your homebrewed gunslinger, or the original scans?
A new episode!?!? This is one of the signs of the apocolypse! I really do miss the shows, but understand that real life gets in the way.
Wow a new episode, and it came out on my birthday. I didn’t know you cared.
I submitted my improved Gunslinger action cards to BoardGameGeek, so just look at the files section for Gunslinger there.
I haven’t yet submitted the weapon cards I made yet — they still need a little more cleaning up. The maps, rules, counters, etc. are all available from BoardGameGeek or from links to other Gunslinger pages on the BGG page. Specifically, you can grab the maps out of the Cyberboard or Vassal modules for Gunslinger.

Hurrah. Downloading now
Hey your still alive!!!!
One podcast every 6 months – thats a hella good schedule
Yojimbo- I mean, A Fistful of Dollars is one of my fav’s! Great podcast- now I’m all fired up to shoot y’all down!!!
Just a quick note to thank you both for the episode. Even with the big gap between episodes, Roll 2d6 is still one of my favorites podcasts.
G’day fellas! Great to hear from you again, in what is still one of the most entertaining gaming podcasts out there. Thanks for your efforts!
Good to hear you guys back in the saddle, so to speak.
Look forward to the casts when you guys get the time.
More!
Hmmm I like the idea of action cards for Carwars.
On a note on the awfulness of square grids, I have seen one game do it well. D&D minitures.
They count every second diagonal movement/range as 2 squares. This averages out really well.
They also do line of sight nicely. If you can see any part of the target square from any point on your square you have line of sight but if any part of the target is covered they have cover.
Yee Haa! Great episode as usual. Thanks, and keep em coming.
Wonderful, thank you so much for the new episode, and easily being one of my all time favorite podcasts. I enjoy listening to your podcast immensely you’ve prompted me to go back and listen to the older episodes again. Thanks!
Ben… You said “new” in your post from a few days ago… You do realize that the last episode was posted in December, right???
Comparatively new, better than 6 months before that, I hadn’t checked roll 2d6 in a long while because updates are so few and far between, so relatively new for me.
Its been a while guys.
HELLO!!!… hello… hello…
IS ANYONE OUT THERE!!!… out there… out there…
Just echoes I guess. I’ll check back in another 2d6 days and look again for for a new show.
HELLO?!? McFLY?!?!
Eric, you may want to check back in another 2d20 days, instead!
Well, at the very least, I might see Adam and Nate at KublaCon in a couple months…
Just spent the last week listening to all 19 episodes of 2D6 – great stuff! Looking forwards to the next podcast.
We love you guys, and take the ribbing about our podcast release schedule with a smile. We sincerely wish we could put them out more often, and will endeavor to do so.
Thanks for subscribing.
You mentioned that you were thinking of doing some sort of reaction when people get shot. One game system you might look at is the miniatures rules from Two Hour Wargames “Six Gun Sound”. It’s a free download from the THW Yahoo Group:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/twohourwargames/
The free THW rules use a single stat for characters called “reputation” which represents grit, experience or morale. Characters have to make reaction rolls versus their reputation on two dice. Each dice that is less than or equal to reputation is a pass. So for example, if a character is shot at, he must take a “shot at” test. Passing 2 dice means you can act as normal, passing one dice means that you duck down, and 0 dice means that you run away back to cover. It’s a very non-linear system. Since it’s free, it’s worth downloading and giving it a try.
