In this episode, Nate and I discuss all the games we saw and played at KublaCon 2007, and make some attempt to remember what they were all about. As usual, I took lots of pictures and made a Flickr photoset of them. Check out the pics and you can follow along as we talk about the various games!

Note: I had said in the podcast that I was unable to find information about the game “Ship of the Line” from Ballantine, published in 1976. After looking at my Kublacon notes again, I found that the publisher was actually Battleline, and I was able to find the game on BGG … but under the name “Ship o’ the Line”. A tip o’ the hat to Tom Rogers, who ran that game at KublaCon.
Other stuff:
Dungeon Majesty
The Gamers
Old West miniatures from Foundry
Update: Added link to Federation Commander.
I remember that Grit mag too… advertised in my comic books. I think this is it:

Guys!
That was the funniest ever Episode – Keep up the inane chatter, its full of gems.
Good show guys.
Strangely enough, while I was listening to this on my bicycle commute and while you were making a comment about “buckets of dice”, I found a battered old 1d6 lying on the road.
What was the name of the Starfleet game you mentioned? It was a simplified version of another game. (It’s hard to jot down games mentioned while I’m driving!)
I apologize if any of us HERO System players came across as rude or insulting by correcting the mistakes in the Champions episode.
HERO System is a bit of a cult, really. If you think the people who posted comments on your blog can out of hand, you ought to check out the official HERO System message boards. It’s like a friggin’ BDSM dungeon in there, people alternately flogging and assuaging one-another.
That Starfleet game was Federation Commander, which I for some reason forgot to put on the list of games I played — how could I have forgotten that one? Thanks for noticing. I added it to the list of links.

Alright, dammit! I WILL be there next year!!!
Wait a sec- according to the law of universal gravitation, your ‘game win’ guarantee isn’t good ANYWHERE!! I’m still gonna loose to Nate the next time we cross dice!
Oh well, I loved the Tappit Brothers impression.
Keep it up guys!
If Joe makes it out to KublaCon next year, I gotta go- or be forever branded a looooser by my friends!
I can’t find any way on your site to contact you other than this so sorry if this is in the wrong place. Who do I talk to about doing a review/show on Heroic Cthulhu (website given)?
Thanks,
Logan
Seasons have passed… it must be time for another episode of Roll 2d6…
great podcast guys. keep ‘em coming.
*poke poke* C’mon guys, we need another Roll 2d6!
Well, if the fans are demanding it, must be time to get started on the next episode.
Seriously, though, we’ve both been really busy with various projects (mostly work), but we’re trying to get together for another recording session Real Soon Now.
As for Heroic Cthulhu, I don’t think we’d be able to talk about it unless we play it, and there are so many games on our to-play list right now that it probably won’t be happening soon. But it’s the policy of Roll 2d6 not to comment on unannounced podcast topics.
– Adam at Roll 2d6
Love the podcast guys… do you ever make up your own games? Does anybody do that? I’ve been tinkering around for about six or seven years now on various miniature games, mostly because I can’t afford to buy many games, but also because I just like figuring out how to simulate various aspects of real life in a fun manner. It would be cool for you guys to talk with a game designer on the west coast sometime. I think I’m one of the only game designers in Kearney Nebraska.
Thanks for reading this.
Bertonius the Great…
I think that’s great that you’re designing games. I’ve been doing that most of my life, although only now, after having come in contact with an industrious game designer who lives nearby, do my designs seem a lot more doable and serious. I don’t think it’s because I met this guy, though. I think it’s because I saw that I wasn’t the only person whose hobby it was to design games.
We’re out there, Bertonius. Keep at it, and let us see your demo some time
Great podcast! When will the next one be out?
Hey Adam and Nate! Any idea when the next podcast might be coming out?
Hey guys, whenever you get around to it, we’re looking forward to another episode. Episode 18 was awesome, and we’re sure that episode 19 will be just as good. OK, now I’m gushing…
Hi Adam and Nate! I’m pretty new to this whole Podcasting thing and have only started listening to them in the last month or so. I have to say that while I’ve come across some good ones, so far, your show, Roll 2D6, fits me the best. You talk about the kind of games that I either own, have played or am interested in more than any other Podcast that I’ve come across.
One of the games that I almost can’t wait for you to review is Duel of Ages. You’ve mentioned it a few times on your show and the impression I get is that you like it pretty well. I’d love to hear what you have to say about it. I own the game, but have yet to play it. As I recall Adam said that he owns everything put out for it so far. I’ve heard that it’s a blast to play, but is kind of complex and a little hard to understand. Perhaps you guys could explain some of the more confusing parts when you review it.
That brings me to one other question I have and that is…how many games do you own that you’ve NOT gotten around to playing yet? I have to admit that this is a problem for me. I’ve always meant to count up the total and then add up the ones I’ve played and find out the percentage of the total that I’ve actually played. I’m kind of scared to find out how big the gap may be. I don’t think I should let my wife know once I find out either.
Finally, like many of the posters above, I’d like to know when you’re going to do another podcast? It’s been like four and a half months now since episode 18. I love your podcast and there’s so many more games to cover, both old and new! Don’t make me go hunting for some other lame podcast out there just to fill the time. That’s cruel! When the gap between podcasts gets long enough you get scared that the hosts are just going to drop it. You guys are too much fun to listen to and your show is too unique to let it just wither on the vine so please, grab a frosty beverage as Nate would say, sit down in front of the mics and just catch us all up on what you’ve been playing. You’ll be glad you did…and so will we, your faithful, listening audience.
Hey guys, along with Duel of Ages, I am looking forward to your review of Federation Commander. This is one of the few board games / miniatures games that I think I would feel comfortable purchasing. As it is, I am a cheap-ass gamer who actually likes to make his own rules, however, if I can get a whole lot of fun in the Star Trek universe through Federation Commander, well, that would be just fine with me. I think I can justify the purchase price. Anyway, so you’ve got two assignments… Duel of Ages and Federation Commander.
Not that you have to take assignments from me, I will listen to just about anything you say…
OK, that’s probably taking it too far… Thanks for the pocast, and again, whenever you guys get around to making episode 19, I am sure you will have a great audience.
Is your podcast dead? I loved it dearly, but I need to know if I should remove it from my aggregator list, go through the mourning process, and move on.
No, not dead yet. Just a little tired. Every time I think we’ll be able to record, something comes up. We do intend to keep podcasting and in fact just went over our list of potential topics a few days ago.
So we will be back. Hang in there.
–Adam at Roll 2d6
Please . . . post a new podcast soon!!!
Glad to hear that the podcast is not dead, and glad to hear that you will be posting again soon. Whenever you guys do it, I will listen. Thanks again!
Please make us stop bugging you about doing your next podcast.
Thanks!
I’m glad to hear you’ll be back someday – I really enjoyed your reviews. You guys deserve a show on NPR – you’re *that* good
I agree with the other Nate!
Well, thanks all. I’ll see if Ira Glass wants to take a break for a while and let us fill his spot.
But seriously, the next episode has been recorded and I just have to edit it and post it. Hang in there!
–Adam at Roll 2d6
Yeah! Great! Thanks for doing that… And you guys beat Ira hands down…
Thanks for pointing out that I am a gray beard (guy who likes those old miniatures games who also happens to have a gray beard). Guess I shall embrace it!
Thanks for mentioning me as one of your fans that you saw at Kublacon. I got a big kick out of that! I’d love to play a game at the next Kublacon.
Your fan,
David
